HOW DO I GET STARTED IN GUIDED CHAOS AND HOW DO I TRAIN SOLO?

CAN I REALISTICALLY TRAIN SOLO AND BECOME PROFICIENT IN SELF DEFENSE?
Great question.
Simple answer: yes and no.
If you're talking hand-to-hand fighting and are in relatively good physical condition, the simple answer is absolutely (but please read the rest of this). You need stuff that doesn't require you to be an Olympic athlete to be effective, especially if you train solo.
First off, to prevent a home invasion, there are many essential steps that don't involve hand to hand fighting:

Generally speaking, there are two main components to Guided Chaos (though they are both taught simultaneously):
1. The simple, brutal, easy-to-learn stuff (Guided Chaos Combatives--GCC) that can be practiced on your own with training aids like a Muay Thai heavy bag, A Fighting Man Dummy, or a B.O.B. (see links below). GCC comprises GC-enhanced versions of methods used in World War II to teach our soldiers in 8 hours before shipping off to fight the Japanese in the jungles of the Pacific. You MUST have something to practice deadly strikes against to develop maximum speed and power. You can do a tremendous amount of effective training SOLO using these implements and our books and DVDs (or Downloads) as guides but this is NOT as good as having live training partners. HOWEVER, GCC is designed so that much of it can be practiced without training partners. This is NOT the case with Guided Chaos itself (see #2 below).
2. Guided Chaos. This comprises the main part of our art (of which Combatives is a part) and although it has solo drills that dramatically raise your Balance, Body Unity, Looseness, Sensitivity, Adaptability and Power, it is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that you have multiple training partners to practice. We won't lie to you, this is advanced stuff, HOWEVER, it will get you to the HIGHEST levels of self defense WAY FASTER than any other system out there. We know this because our art is filled with high level instructors (and even masters with their own schools) from other styles who have abandoned their former art to study Guided Chaos exclusively.
Solo Training Strategy:
The key is doing daily solo practice of the Guided Chaos and Guided Chaos Combatives drills. The Combatives drills use all the GC principles so you are still training GC even if you only have time to train GCC solo. With regular solo practice you are building the attributes on your own while periodic class attendance will refine the foundation you're already working on daily. Most of the Combatives drills are on the Combatives DVD and can be practiced with a Muay Thai heavy bag or B.O.B. Dummy.
Most of the GC solo drills are explained on the Companion DVD Part 2. The Combat Conditioning DVD takes you thru all of them as a workout set to music (but has no explanations). The new Balance Board Training Video comes with a Balance Board and is a tremendous solo training tool for the critical attribute of Dynamic Combat Balance.
You should also register and list yourself on our Training Groups Page so you can find workout partners near you.
I'd also recommend going to a Perkins Self Defense School once or twice a year so you can get instruction from the GC blackbelts themselves.

HOW DO I PRACTICE GUIDED CHAOS IF I DON'T LIVE IN NEW YORK OR NEAR A PERKINS SELF DEFENSE SCHOOL?
Even though we outline a strategy below, if there is no school near you if possible you should plan to come to a Perkins Self Defense School at some point and get it straight from the source (earlier rather than later) because Perkins Self Defense has a unique "feel" and you can set yourself back years by not understanding what it is you're striving for in your solo practice.
