Founder, Head Instructor
Brent Ames
- Brent started boxing and gymnastics training during High School.
- 1986 started training with Sensei Jim Hartley in American Karate, earning his black belt in 2007.
- Trained extensively in Combatives, Kick Boxing, Jui-Jitsu and Sport Karate.
- For his Black Belt thesis, he researched what type of self protection training is possible for physically smaller, less athletic folks and folks as they age.
- Wanted to continue his training but without the head trauma of kick boxing and joint and tendon trauma of Jui-Jitsu without losing his ability for self protection.
- Discovered the book Attackproof in 2006 and had the opportunity to train live later that year.
- He was so blown away trying to figure out how it worked that first night he drove 2 hours the wrong direction.
- He has studied Guided Chaos since and opened a school to share this unique art with others.
- In 2017 he earned his 2nd degree black belt in Guided Chaos.
- Through Guided Chaos training, focusing on the movement principles of Balance, Looseness, Body Unity and Sensitivity, Brent can move more effectively even as he ages.
- He can adapt and protect himself against stronger, younger and more athletic people without the trauma of traditional training.

Gary Gerlt is the newest instructor to our school.

In November 2017 he obtained his first degree black belt in Guided Chaos.

For the past decade he has actively been trained by some of the country's top firearms instructors.

Gary also works for Concilium, an international mission-based company, as a physical security specialist. He trains missionary leaders and missions sending agencies in security and risk management.

Gary is also an NRA pistol instructor. He thoroughly enjoys teaching.

Training others to be security-minded is an intricate part of who Gary is, not only in his professional life, but also in his personal life. He and his wife, Charity, married in 2001 and have two daughters. His family also faithfully attends our school. They reside in the Kansas City area.

FOR BEGINNERS THROUGH EXPERTS
Perkins Self Defense has been described as "Tai Chi On Steroids" and is also a superb low-impact and rehabilitative methodology for anyone interested in improving their balance, coordination and relaxation as well as their self-defense skills.

Self-defense Seminars
Basic self-defense taught to groups small or large. Seminar can be at the school or your location. Give yourself a fighting chance to avoid or survive a violent assault.

- How to have a “fighting chance” when surprised attacked
